Red Sox won their Inside the US opening day game 2-1. Dice K threw 6.2 innings, struck out 9 and gave up 1 earned run on only 2 hits. The most important stat is he didn't allow a walk. I think we can expect big things from the Dice man this year. Papelbon came in in the 8th and got a 4 out save. He struck out the side in the 9th. It is so nice to have a quality closer.
Veritek got out of his strike out slump as well as he hit the game winning rbi in the 6th. Although we all know he hit a home run, the umpires ruled the ball bounced off the wall and he was only awarded a double. You know, in the old days, that type of a call by the umps would always come back to kill us. That one run would come back to be the deciding run that would lose the game for us. But not any more. I am still not use to these New Red Sox Rules.
Big Papi still looks a little lost at the plate but hopefully he will start getting hits and coming up big when we need him to.
I watched some of the Yankee home opener as well. I don't understand this Chamberlain guy - he gets out of an inning and starts jumping up and down, throwing his fists in the air like he just won a world series or something. I can see if he just closed out the game, but c'mon, he's a middle relief guy, only in there so he can hand the ball to Rivera. You don't see Timlin or Okajima acting like that. And why do they have to show Chamberlains dad after every pitch? We all know he is there, just show the game. I hope he gets 20 blown saves this year.
Day game coming up next, hopefully we can take 3 of 4 from the A's to start the season...
