The Offseason

Well we lost to the Rays in 7 games. My son keeps telling me that there are no more games until April and that sure feels a long time away. I am glad that the Rays lost to the Phillies in the World Series - I am beginning to really dislike the Rays (almost as much as my dislike for the Yankees).

Now we have to work on keeping Tek and it will be interesting to find out what Schilling will do. Timlin will probably retire and we will see what Wake does too.

At the end of every season, I am reminded what A. Bartlett Giamatti wrote about baseball and the Red Sox. He wrote, "Baseball breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as the chill rains come, and when you need it the most, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone."

I can't wait for April...
